The vtONE Spring 2011 Worship Event
The vtONE Spring 2011 Worship Event was a great and inspiring time of worship and prayer with the body of Christ at Virginia Tech. We were also blessed to be joined by many people from other campuses, as well as several ministries/churches in the New River Valley.
Our theme for this event was WELCOMED: Living a Lifestyle that Welcomes God. Jeff Noble, pastor of Northstar Church (Blacksburg, VA), was our speaker. He gave a challenging call to face the things that hold us back from inviting God into all areas of our lives. It was a very encouraging opportunity to see God and how He welcomes us into His family and His Kingdom, and also how He gives us the grace to pursue him and to open our lives to Him.
Japan Crisis and Assistance Opportunities
During one of our prayer times, we had an opportunity to join together in prayer for Japan and those dealing with the aftermath of the massive earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan.. At the time of the event, the official death toll was around 7,000. However, more than 10,700 are listed as missing, and the figures are rising. Some 390,000 people, including many among Japan’s aging population, are homeless and battling near-freezing temperatures in shelters in northeastern coastal areas. Food, water, medicine and heating fuel are in short supply. Additionally, Japan is working hard to prevent the spread of radiation from a badly damaged nuclear reactor.
Let’s continue to stand together in prayer for Japan and everyone who is affected by this devastation. Let’s pray that God would be at work in the midst of all of this: that he would prevent the nuclear reactor from deteriorating anymore and stop the spread of radiation, that he would reunite those who are lost with their loved ones; that he would provide food to the hungry and shelter to the homeless; that He would strengthen the church in that region; and that draw people to Himself by His mercy and compassion and that they would come to know His salvation and His love.
There are several ways to assist Japan financially. A few organizations are: Convoy of Hope (Select “tsunami & quake Japan” in the designation section), Hokies United, and The American Red Cross.
